GET TO KNOW JESSICA LABELLE
Working in the consulting industry. Consulting in northern Ontario is a small world and you get to know the names and faces, we’ve crossed paths a few times.
And just last fall, I worked on a project partnering with Blue Heron and had the pleasure of spending a day on a river with one of BH’s aquatic biologists (shout out to Kara! Hey!).
The variety of the projects! Every day is different, so it never gets boring.
In my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a little bit of everything, in multiple sectors – municipal, agriculture, mining. As well as a variety of size: smaller scale projects (one day sampling program), all the way up to the larger, complex ones (permitting a mining project from the ground up).
That I just stare at budgets and schedules all day.
There’s also emails and meetings! Kidding. There’s a range of tasks that come with the job and I also like to help out in any way I can. So, one day I might be looking at project budgets, but the next, I might be walking through a creek covered in mud doing a site visit.
My first job was at the Cobalt Public Library.
Even though organizing the card catalog (do those still exist?) was at times monotonous and wreaked havoc on my allergies, getting paid to read books was a pretty great first job!
Speaking other languages – at this point, I’d settle with understanding French better than I do.
Don’t let the last name fool you, my French is definitely lacking.
Do what you feel in your heart to be right – for you’ll be criticized anyway.

You must always have faith in people. And most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself.

Road trip down the west coast – Vancouver to LA. And try to find a few concerts to hit along the way!
South part of Spain – the beaches, the food, the coffee!! I miss it all.
