EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: GET TO KNOW THE TEAM
2022 SUMMER STUDENTS
ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIANS & INTERNS
We’re proud to be able to provide high school and post-secondary students with opportunities to earn workplace experience. Our senior staff take great care in mentoring youth who take an interest in environmental fields of study.
We sat down with some of our summer students to ask a few questions to help our clients get to know them better.

TYLER MARCOTTE
ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN
Meet Tyler Marcotte, Environmental Technician, a returning student in 2022 to our Blue Heron Environmental team. Mr. Marcotte has been spending his summers with Blue Heron since 2017.
I am currently going into my third year of the Ecological Restoration Joint Bachelor of Science program with Trent University.
I don’t know if there is one thing specifically that I want to learn this summer at Blue Heron, however it is always great learning about new field methods and becoming familiar with new sites.
My favorite part about working at Blue Heron is the variety in the work on a day-to-day basis. Our tasks and responsibilities are always evolving which keeps the job interesting.
Once I graduate from school in 2024, I will be looking to pursue a career in the environmental field in the mining sector.

AMELIA PATTUI
ENVIRONMENTAL INTERN
Meet Amelia Pattui, Environmental Intern, a 2022 student on our Blue Heron Environmental team. Amelia is a returning student who is working out of our Sudbury, ON office location.
Two summers ago, I was looking to gain more experience in the industry, and I was offered a volunteer position helping in the field. Before I started, I was offered a job also helping in the Training department.
I had so much fun last summer, and I’ve learned a lot from the team, so I asked to come back this year.
This fall, I am entering my fourth year at the University of Guelph, studying Environmental Governance. I am also completing a minor in Ecology and working toward obtaining a certificate in Indigenous Environmental Governance.
I love when I get the opportunity to do some field work!
In my free time you can typically find me outside, so being able to explore the outdoors while is working is really cool. Plus, working with the Bio team is always a fun experience.
I’m not quite sure yet! I would love to do some travelling after I graduate but having a career in the environmental sciences and biology is my end goal. Especially if it gets me outside.
I would have to say either Italy or British Columbia.
Italy, because of my Italian heritage, the culture, the landscape, the food… I could go on.
British Columbia is also a favorite of mine. I fell in love with the mountains, the old growth forests and ocean. I first visited BC in February, but I would love to live there some day!

MICHAEL HOVEN
JR. ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN
Meet Michael Hoven, Junior Environmental Technician, a new 2022 addition to our Blue Heron summer staff.
I first learned about Blue Heron from my father, who worked for Blue Heron in the past.
I have recently graduated from high school, but next year I will return for another semester prior to starting my post-secondary education (also allowing me to play sports for another year).
During my time at Blue Heron I am hoping to learn more about the environmental field, and what environmental technicians do on a daily bases, as this is the field I am hoping to go to school for.
My favorite place I have visited is Punta Cana, it was an incredible trip and a great break from the Canadian winters.

KAYLEE TRUAX
ENVIRONMENTAL INTERN
Meet Kaylee Truax, Environmental Intern, a new 2022 addition to our Blue Heron summer staff.
I did my secondary school coop at Blue Heron.
I am beginning the program of ecosystem management technician at Fleming College in Lindsay
My favorite part about working at Blue Heron is the super kind staff, and the amazing learning opportunities I have gained.
