Honestly, the first time I heard of Blue Heron Environmental would have been competing against the team they sponsored in Minor Hockey as a kid. But as far as hearing about them on a professional level it was when I was in post-secondary when our professors would use Blue Heron as reference for some of the activities we were doing.
My favorite part about being an environmental technician would be being able to go out every day into the natural environment and being able to see what nature has to offer on a daily basis.
I truly believe that we are privileged to be doing this as a career. Another part that I truly enjoy as a technician is being able to access these remote locations using recreational vehicles such as ATV’s and snowmobiles, which on my own time I enjoy using as well.
A myth that I would like to clear up as an environmental technician would be that we are not on site to give other workers and companies a difficult time.
We are solely there to do our part in preserving and protecting the environment.
My first job growing up as kid was a cook at Pizza Hut, here in Timmins. At the time I was about 15 years old when I started there. However, I still enjoy eating there from time to time.
If I were able to pickup a new skill in an instant, it would most likely be having the ability to not get stuck at all while snowmobiling in 5+ feet of snow.
“Well, here goes nothing.”
One thing I would like to do within the next year would be to go on a fly in hunting or fishing trip, mostly because I have never had the opportunity to be on a float plane before and because I truly believe it would be an amazing experience to do what I love in such remote locations.
My favorite place to visit has to be Cocoa Beach in Florida!
For me, beautiful weather and beaches take the cake! Not to mention the beautiful scenery as well as the many adventures it has to offer as well, such as deep-sea fishing, air boat rides through the everglades, and snorkeling.
