Most active mining operations in Canada are subject to the federal Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations (MDMER).
The regulation is complex and at times contradictory to provincial legislation or site-specific permits. This session is a detailed review of the regulatory requirements and associated guidance documents, providing an in-depth review of the criteria for compliance, monitoring and reporting requirements. Participants will review the regulation itself in detail, highlighting key points and interpreting the requirements for their sites. Tools for consolidating monitoring and reporting requirements, and planning for the upcoming year to ensure ongoing compliance, will be provided.
Participants will also receive guidance on preparing for Environment Canada and Climate Change MDMER inspections (e.g. what to expect and how to prepare in advance).
