Employee Spotlight: Get to Know the Team

Michel Huck

Senior Environmental Technician

Meet Michel Huck, Senior Environmental Technician, a 2022 addition to our Blue Heron Environmental team.

Mr. Huck comes from a geological and assay laboratory background with nearly 10 years of experience working in the mining industry.  Michel has experience working in different sectors of the environmental field including assaying, geology, mining and construction. Mike is experienced in environmental monitoring, surface and groundwater monitoring.

We asked Michel Huck to answer a few questions to help our clients get to know him better.

We continue to share the stories of the remarkable additions to our hard-working team at Blue Heron Environmental (BHE). In the past few  years, we’ve hired a number of new professionals to help reach new heights for our business.

To showcase the people who make up Blue Heron, we sat down with team members to ask them a few questions about their professional career — and a few personal ones too.

HOW DID YOU FIRST LEARN ABOUT BLUE HERON ENVIRONMENTAL?

Linda Byron has been a family friend probably since I was around 8 years old, plus working in the mining industry here in Northern Ontario you hear about how well known the company is.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A Senior Environmental Technician?

Everyday is something new, from driving an Argo, to snowmobiling to get to locations around sites.

Sometimes you get to stop and have a tea at some amazing views.

WHAT IS ONE MYTH ABOUT BEING A SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN THAT YOU’D LIKE TO CLEAR UP?

I think one of the bigger myths on mine sites is that we are only there to deal with spills, and in those cases some other employee is getting in trouble.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

My first job was working for my father’s company, building log homes and furniture.

IF YOU COULD PICK UP ANY NEW SKILL IN AN INSTANT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Solve math problems instantly in my head.

GOT ANY FAVORITE QUOTES?

I am not losing my step, I just take the time to look where I put it.

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU WANT TO DO IN THE NEXT YEAR THAT YOU’VE NEVER DONE BEFORE?

I have never had the chance to ride in a heli.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE YOU’VE EVER VISITED?

The Alps, I am from Germany, so I love being able to go play in the mountains whenever I get a chance to visit.
How do we go about pursuing a concern?

How do we go about pursuing a concern?

Community concerns about development projects are often rooted in how land is used and valued. In this Phone-A-Friend feature, we highlight how Brad Cole supports Indigenous communities in communicating environmental site concerns, strengthening consultation processes, and establishing practical, long-term protocols for engagement.
