GET TO KNOW LAURA WAREHAM
I previously worked with Blue Heron as a Senior Environmental Specialist about 10 years ago and I am excited to share that I am resuming my journey as part of the team! The values, work culture, and the exceptional team dynamics were factors that always resonated with me during my initial tenure.
I’m looking forward to reconnecting with my former colleagues and meeting the new faces that have joined the team.
My favorite part about being a senior auditor is the variety and challenge of assessing a wide range of industries, projects, and processes. This variety can keep the job interesting and challenging, as each audit may present unique complexities and opportunities for problem-solving.
The process of working with great people and identifying solutions to ensure compliance can be intellectually stimulating and rewarding!
One myth that I would like to clear up is that “auditors are only concerned with compliance”. While compliance with regulations is an important aspect of auditing, auditors also consider broader issues like risk management, efficiency, and strategic alignment. These considerations are achieved by understanding an organization’s operations to accurately assess compliance and identify areas for improvement. While audit findings can focus on improvement, it is also important to highlight strengths and successes in an organization’s operations to drive positive change.
My first ‘job’ was babysitting when I was a teenager. The minimum wage back then was $4.75/hr, however I was paid a total of $5.00 for an entire evening of babysitting services!
I would love to learn as many new languages as possible. Throughout my career, I was given opportunities to work in many Countries and always found hearing different languages fascinating!
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
– Aesop
Complete my Master of Environmental Studies Degree with Queens University. Attending University as a part-time ‘seasoned’ student has enabled me to apply and share my experiences throughout my studies. It is never too late to learn!
The most favorite place I have visited and worked is the United Kingdom. My daughter was born in England and lives in Canada which gives her Canadian foliage with British roots!
