Employee Spotlight: Get to Know the Team
Greg Petten
Indigenous Community Support Consultant
Meet Greg Petten, Indigenous Community Support Consultant, a 2024 addition to our Blue Heron Environmental and Zhashagi teams. We are excited to be expanding our Zhashagi team, which works to serve indigenous communities and businesses.
Greg Petten is a knowledgeable Environmental Technician, with over 15 years’ experience within the mining industry. Just prior to joining the Blue Heron Team he was the Environmental Coordinator at Biigtigong Nishnaabeg (Pic River First Nation) for several years.
Greg is a proud member of Netimizaagamig Nishnaabeg (Pic Mobert First Nation), who received diplomas in Fish and Wildlife Technician and the Integrated Resource Management programs from Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology. Mr. Petten’s field experience, education, and knowledge gained working with and for Indigenous Communities should prove to be a definite asset to the Blue Heron Environmental Team.
We continue to share the stories of the remarkable additions to our hard-working team at Blue Heron Environmental (BHE). In the past couple of years, we’ve hired a number of new professionals to help reach new heights for our business.
To introduce these new Blue Heron members, we thought we’d sit down and ask them a few questions about their professional career (and a few personal ones too).
Join us in welcoming Greg to the team!

HOW DID YOU FIRST LEARN ABOUT BLUE HERON ENVIRONMENTAL?
I took a course with Blue Heron about 16 years ago and remember it being quite useful for someone new to the field. A few months ago, I started looking for training courses that would benefit some of the field technicians that were working with me.
Naturally, I referred back to the course I had taken earlier in my career. While on the Blue Heron Environmental website I noticed the job posting for an Indigenous Community Support Consultant and applied.
