
- To enter, complete the online entry form. There is no entry fee. Mailed entries will not be accepted.
- Entries must be received by Friday, August 21, 2026. Blue Heron Environmental is not responsible for lost, incomplete, corrupted, or misdirected entries.
- Each photo may be entered in one category only: Close-Up, Seasonal - Summer, Seasonal - Fall, Seasonal - Winter, Seasonal - Spring, Wildlife, or Workplace.
- There is no limit to the number of photos a person may submit.
- Entries may be colour or black-and-white digital photographs. Digital entries must be uploaded electronically through the online form at www.blueheronenv.com/photo-contest. Accepted file types include .jpeg, .jpg, and .png. Digital files should be at least 1.0 MB in size, and higher-resolution files are preferred for print reproduction.
- Winning photographers may be asked to provide the original, high-resolution version of their selected photograph for publication in the calendar.
- Each photographer may have up to three winning entries selected for the calendar contest. Previous winners, in any year or category of the Resource Industry Calendar Photo Contest, remain eligible to enter, provided the photograph submitted has not previously been selected as a winning entry.
- Each monthly photo winner will receive a gift card. The grand prize winning photo will be featured on the cover of the Blue Heron Environmental calendar.
- Contestants must be affiliated with, or retired from, the natural resource sector. For the purposes of this contest, natural resource sector industries include agriculture, forestry, fishing, power generation, and mining.
- Professional and semi-professional photographers, including photographers who earn money from the sale of their photographs, are eligible and welcome to enter.
- The names of the winners and selected photographs are scheduled to be published in September 2026.
- Prizes must be accepted as awarded and are not redeemable for cash.
- By submitting a photo, the photographer grants Blue Heron Environmental the right to publish the winning entry, along with the photographer’s name, in the 2027 Resource Industry Calendar and in a future Blue Heron Environmental news release or announcement celebrating contest winners. The photographer will not receive further compensation for such publication.
- Winning photographs may also be used, without further payment, in print or electronic materials promoting future Blue Heron Environmental photo contests.
- It is the responsibility of the contestant to ensure that publication of the submitted photograph by Blue Heron Environmental does not raise any legal claims. The photographer must own all rights to any photograph entered in this contest and must have permission to submit the photograph for publication.
Eligibility
The Blue Heron Environmental Annual Resource Industry Calendar Photo Contest is open to any photographer who is affiliated with, or retired from, the natural resource sector. For more information, see Contest Rule #9.
Only the photographer may submit a photograph. Prizes will be awarded to the photographers of the selected entries.
Judging
Entries will be judged by a panel chaired by Blue Heron Environmental. The decisions of the judges are final.
Winners will be notified by email and/or telephone.
By submitting the online entry form, the photographer consents to the entry of their submission and agrees to abide by the contest rules.
