This program provides a detailed analysis and discussion of the latest environmental regulations and compliance guidelines within Ontario.
Among the topics covered are a discussion of the federal and provincial legislative frameworks and their application to the resource industry, environmental permit requirements and the permitting process, the role of Aboriginal consultation on the permitting process, and an introduction to environmental management and compliance programs.

Session #2 – Water Taking and Discharge, Air Emissions, NPRI and GHGs

This session is a deeper dive into the regulatory requirements for specific environmental issues at Mine sites: Requirements for taking water, waste water management, air emissions management, including monitoring and reporting requirements.
Session #3 – Waste, Chemicals, Fuels and Env Emergencies

Common to most industrial sites, managing wastes, fuels and chemicals as well as preparing for and responding to environmental emergencies such as spills or exceedances are a large part of an environmental practitioner’s role.
This session will look into the regulatory requirements as they pertain to mine sites in Ontario.
Session #4 – Indigenous Consultation, Wildlife Management and Closure Plans

This session starts with an examination of Indigenous Consultation rules and best practices as they relate to mining operations, followed by a discussion on common Wildlife Management practices on mine properties.
The afternoon session is an introduction to Closure Plans for mines in Ontario. Learn the various triggers for Closure Plan and Closure Plan Amendment Submissions, as well as recent practices and evolving trends regarding the practices and information requirements for filing of Mine Closure Plans/Closure Plan Amendments.
Session #5 – Regulatory Enforcement and Environmental Management Systems

The Regulatory Enforcement session provides a review of the consequences for proponents in the Mining industry who do not adhere to the environmental laws that apply to their work sites.
In the afternoon, we introduce participants to the concept of systems for the management of environmental compliance requirements, with a focus on risk management and prioritization, as well as practical, simple and cost-effective management programs.
