Introduction to Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations

Most active mining operations in Canada properties that discharge effluent are subject to the Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations (MDMER). This session is an introduction to the federal MDMER, providing a review of the criteria for triggering into MDMER, tools for ensuring compliance to MDMER, recent updates and an overview of the key monitoring and reporting requirements outlined in the regulation.

Linda Byron, Director and Senior Project Manager of Blue Heron, has been a professional Environmental Scientist since 1990, with over 18 years in the mining industry.

Ms. Byron has an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from Laurentian University, and has extensive operational expertise in the practical, real-life environmental, health and safety issues encountered in the resource industry.

IN-DEPTH EXPLORATION OF MDMER

December 18, 2020

Building on the introductory MDMER webinar, this session is a detailed review of the regulatory requirements and associated guidance documents, providing an in-depth review of the criteria for compliance, monitoring and reporting requirements. Participants will review the regulation itself in detail, highlighting key points and interpreting the requirements for their sites.

Tools for consolidating monitoring and reporting requirements, and planning for the upcoming year to ensure ongoing compliance, will be provided. Participants will also receive guidance on preparing for Environment Canada and Climate Change MDMER inspections (e.g. what to expect and how to prepare in advance). Participants will receive printed training materials and handouts to use for future reference.
