Internal Auditor Training

Internal environmental auditor training helps environmental practitioners to determine whether their operations are in compliance with Federal and Provincial environmental regulations. This two-day workshop provides a review of environmental regulations in Canada and Ontario, as it applies to each participant’s site, and then provides hands-on exercises to practice auditing and identify gaps that need to be addressed.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The main content of this workshop includes:

  • reviewing applicable environmental laws;
  • creating a legal registry to ensure all environmental regulations that apply to your site are included and considered in your programs;
  • how to create an internal audit plan;
  • developing an internal audit checklist;
  • applying best practices for internal audits;
  • conducting audits and using objective evidence to assess compliance;
  • effectively participating in an internal audit;
  • writing internal audit reports;
  • developing action plans to address the root cause of gaps identified in audits.

Director/Senior Project Manager/Lead EHS/Compliance Auditor

Linda Byron, Director and Senior Project Manager of Blue Heron, has been a professional Environmental Scientist since 1990, with over 18 years in the mining industry. 

Ms. Byron has an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from Laurentian University, and has extensive operational expertise in the practical, real-life environmental, health and safety issues encountered in the resource industry.

Serena Maki, Training Coordinator

INSTRUCTOR: SERENA MAKI

Environmental Specialist / Training Coordinator

Serena Maki, Environmental Specialist/Training Coordinator has over 10 years of managing environmental compliance systems at a number of mining operations in Ontario.  She additionally has 10 years in environmental toxicity laboratory experience. 

Ms. Maki graduated from Canadore College from the Environmental Biology Technology program, completing an internship with the Ministry of Environment and Energy’s Toxicity Laboratory.

SAFETY PROTOCOLS

Blue Heron Environmental follows Health Canada’s guidelines for COVID-19 safety. This in-person workshop has a class size limit of 8 participants, respecting 2m of distance and mandatory mask wearing/hand sanitizing. All tables, chairs and high-touch surfaces are cleaned prior to receiving guests.
