EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: GET TO KNOW THE TEAM
AMBER WATT
JUNIOR BIOLOGIST
Meet Amber Watt, Junior Biologist, a 2022 addition to our Blue Heron Environmental team.
Ms. Watt first came to Blue Heron as a student, then returned to Blue Heron this year, after completing her Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Wildlife. Amber has experience in the biological and environmental fields throughout Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia.
Ms. Watt has completed her undergraduate thesis on bird behaviour in southwestern Manitoba. She collected and analyzed waterfowl breeding pair and nest data to illustrate relationships between Canvasbacks and Redheads.
We asked Amber Watt to answer a few questions to help our clients get to know her better.
GET TO KNOW AMBER WATT
Fleming College directed me when I was looking for a company to complete my co-op with. I was amazed and thankful that there was a consulting company so close to home!
I love being the boots-on-the-ground person collecting data. I get to feed my curiosity when I explore sites and I feel great at the end of the day knowing I collected accurate data. Also, a horrible day in the field is not a bad day at all – it becomes a funny story for another day!
Picking blueberries in Iroquois Falls. My mom used to make me pick berries from sunup to the heat of the day. Then she would make me sit on the side of the road in what I thought at the time were silly dresses. Who knew that this would lead to my passion for being outdoors?
Singing – my friends won’t even let me hum to songs because I am so tone deaf.
I want – I need to hunt Lake St. Clair for Canvasbacks. Not only do I need to see the Kings again but it would be a great adventure to take my ol’ duck hunter dad on.
Manitoba – there’s just something about the friendly people, beautifully flat landscape, and the ducks EVERYWHERE that will always hold a special place in my heart.
