DAY 1
Monday January 21st, 2008
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS FOR MANAGERS

This 4 hour session is designed as a "short course" for managers and supervisors that have had little or no exposure to environmental legislation that influences today’s mineral industry.

This session is designed specifically for managers and supervisors who require a basic understanding of how environmental legislation and regulatory requirements can affect mines and project development timelines as well as the financial bottom line.



DAY 2
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008
PERMITTING FOR THE MINERAL SECTOR

Participants will review regulatory requirements for applying for and receiving various types of permits for mining and exploration in Ontario.

Practical exercises will enhance the understanding of the permitting processes for simple changes to operations as well as for permitting large scale endeavors, from advanced exploration projects to various stages of mine development.



DAY 3
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008
COMPLIANCE AND MONITORING PROGRAMS

Participants will work extensively with legislative requirements for the mineral sector in Ontario. Provincial and federal legislation for Air, Water, Waste and Land Use will be covered in detail.

Practical exercises, including the development of site-specific legal registries, will enable participants to navigate the legal requirements that apply to their operations, and set up compliance and monitoring programs that will suit their needs, while ensuring compliance with all appropriate legislation.

Compliance Self-Auditing Tools, with instructions for simple, yet effective implementation, will be provided at this session.



DAY 4
Thursday, January 24th, 2008
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Participants will be introduced to the concept of practical, simple and cost-effective Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

An introduction to environmental risk assessments, and their practical applications, will be provided. Work completed in Days 2 - 3 will be incorporated into simple, site-specific programs and procedures to support an EMS.



DAY 5
Friday, January 25th, 2008
CLOSURE PLANNING

Ontario's regulatory requirements for a Closure Plan will be reviewed in detail. Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the technical requirements of the regulation
  • Review a Closure Plan for completeness/accuracy
  • Ensure Closure Plan Costs are up to date and accurate

  • In addition, requirements for filing "Notices of Material Change and Project Status" will be discussed.
