Blue Heron - The People:


Linda Byron-Fortin, of Blue Heron, is a professional Environmental Scientist who has been working in the environmental field since 1990. Ms. Byron-Fortin has an honours Bachelor of Science degree from Laurentian University, and has extensive operational expertise in the practical, real-life environmental issues encountered in the mining industry. Ms. Byron-Fortin has been instrumental in the implementation of Certified Environmental Management Systems at large base-metal mining companies in Northern Ontario, Canada, and has assisted other resource-based industries in practical aspects of implementing and maintaining an effective EMS. She has also assisted industries with permitting efforts as well as development and implementation of compliance and training programs for mining operations in Canada and abroad.


Gerry Stinson, Intermediate Environmental Specialist, with Blue Heron has 14 years of environmental, safety and mineral processing experience ranging from Manager of Milling to Manager of Environmental Affairs. Gerry has been involved with the day to day operation of mine sites in Ontario and Manitoba. Mr. Stinson has extensive experience with the development and management of environmental compliance programs, and has covered all aspects of the discipline, from the actual sampling and analysis to the regulatory reporting requirements. Mr. Stinson is experienced in project management, and has been involved in project scoping, technical specification, permitting and project supervision. Gerry has been with Blue Heron since September 2009.

Genevieve Sulatycky, Intermediate Environmental Specialist, with Blue Heron, is an Engineer in Training with experience in environmental management in the mining industry. Gen has authored mine closure plans and has provided technical support for a variety of environmental permitting projects in Ontario. Ms. Sulatycky has a Bachelor of Science degree in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Guelph, and has been with Blue Heron since April, 2007.

Ryan Marshall, Intermediate Environmental Specialist, joined Blue Heron in May 2010. Mr. Marshall has experience in environmental compliance and consulting, and specializes in fish and wildlife biology with a degree from the University of Guelph. Mr. Marshall’s areas of focus include permitting, development and implementation of environmental compliance programs, baseline studies for industrial clients.

Jennifer Klebert, Environmental Specialist, is an Engineer in Training who holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree with a Major in Environmental from Dalhousie University. Ms. Klebert has experience with the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs, and has provided technical support for environmental permitting projects in Northern Ontario. Jennifer joined Blue Heron in June of 2008.

Dwayne Hoven, Environmental Technologist, joined Blue Heron in January of 2010. Mr. Hoven has over 14 years experience in complying with environmental regulations in the oil and gas, and mining industries across Canada. Mr. Hoven is well versed in the implementation of site specific environmental regulations, fieldwork monitoring and analysis techniques, as well as environmental and mine safety training for industry personelle and managers.


Nathan Towsley, Aboriginal Consultation and Training Coordinator, joined Blue Heron in January of 2010. Mr. Towsley recently returned to Timmins from Yellowknife, NT where he worked extensively with industry, the Territorial Government and Aboriginal communities on a variety of environmental and socio-political topics. Mr. Towsley specialises in environmental issues, sociology, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and cultural studies. Mr. Towsley has assisted a number of northern mine companies navigate through consultation protocols and engage productively with Aboriginal communities.

Anthony Mascioli, Environmental / GIS specialist. As a graduate of the University of Waterloo, Mr. Mascioli holds an Honors Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree has completed degree recognized specializations in Biophysical Systems (Climatology, Hydrology, Geology) and Geomatics (Geographical Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Geodesy). Mr. Mascioli has 5 years of environmental experience and has been instrumental in the implementation, creation and maintenance of environmental databases and providing permitting support. Mr. Mascioli has worked with Blue Heron since 2006 and has formally joined in 2009.

Jo-Ann Pretsell, Administrative Assistant/ Field Technician has experience in field work associated with environmental permitting and baseline studies projects. She has performed groundwater, surface water, and soil sampling for a variety of mining and exploration properties, and provides administrative technical support to Blue Heron clients. Jo-Ann has been with Blue Heron since July of 2007.


Quentin Hamilton, Associate Geochemist, with Blue Heron, has 17 years experience as an environmental consultant in the mining sector with an emphasis on mine waste geochemical assessments and mine water treatment. Mr. Hamilton has an undergraduate degree in chemistry and biology from the University of Wales (UK) and a Masters degree in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London (UK).

Mr. Hamilton is a chartered chemist in the UK and in Ontario and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (UK). Both his academic background and his work experience enables Mr. Hamilton to bring a multidisciplinary approach to the projects he works on. In addition to his mining experience, Mr. Hamilton also has practical experience designing and carrying out phase I and phase II environmental site assessments at various residential and commercial sites. Mr. Hamilton has been an Associate with Blue Heron since December, 2008.

Daryl McIntyre, Associate Health and Safety Specialist, has been working with Blue Heron since 2009. Mr. McIntyre’s experience is with the development and implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems at industrial facilities, and has extensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and requirements at mining operations.
